Life is Fragile

As much as we think we are in control, we are not. The human condition instinctively over values our own responsibility for our destiny. This is not to say that we have no control. Rather, that some things are out of our control. Some things are in the hands of God. And some are just sheer luck. We do not control where we are born, who raises us, what opportunities we have as children, and to some degree the frailties of our own health. We do control how we react to these circumstances. Time is wasted complaining and comparing the things we cannot control. As long as we choose to coexist with others, we also yield a certain degree of control to those around us. We are subject to the consequences of their actions. I was reminded of this as I pondered the cruel and unfortunate shooting that took place in Tuscon, AZ. The victims woke up and made a good choice. They chose to participate in the political process in a desire to build a better nation. Some may have just been passerby's on their way. Regardless, the choice of another ended or severely and traumatically impacted their lives. We have been granted a trust by each other and have a social responsibility to make choices that build others happiness rather than destroying it. We are all happier living amongst each other as opposed to the isolated existence of hermit. Consider your responsibility to care for others. Remember the fragile nature of life and don't ever fool yourself that you are the sole controller of your destiny. Love your friends, your family, be grateful for every second of breath that God grants you and pray that those around you will you treat your life with kindness and reverence.
